Subcultures

In class today we talked about how every major culture has smaller groups within them. These groups have unique characteristic that make up a subculture.  For example Stevenson is a subculture because our school has its own slang, mores, taboos and symbols that other high school might not have. Stevenson's  values and moral tend to revolve around grades, going to college and honest. And one of our symbols that everyone student knows is purple passes, and when one comes everyone know that someones most likely going to get into trouble. Another thing about subcultures is someone can be in many different ones without even noticing.

  1. I agree, we do take many things at Stevenson as a normal part of our day. Whereas a newcomer wouldn't know what a purple pass is, or where the wood commons are.
